Since 1881 the Dallas Police Department has worked hard each day to make this great city ever safer. However, its history has not been sufficiently researched and displayed. That is the goal of our Museum Board of Directors. The Board invites you to join us in this important and fascinating project!

"...most important is the safety of our people."

Former Dallas Mayor Jack Evans

History of the Museum

Researching and documenting this project started some four decades ago with the individual work of an employee of the Departments’ Property Room. He passed his work on to a group of Retired Dallas Police officers. Unfortunately that did not result in any lasting work.

Today the Museum Project is moving forward again with the help of active efforts which have resulted in the acquisition of many artifacts and videos.

Current Support

With space guaranteed by the Dallas City Council in the Jack Evans Police Headquarters and a promotional video featuring the support of Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson and Chief of Police Eddie Garcia, the Museum Board of Directors is now launching into a fundraising effort to place many of the artifacts in the Museum space for the education and enjoyment of the people the Department serves.

Mission

Since 1881 the Dallas Police Department has worked hard each day to make this great city ever safer. However, its history has not been sufficiently researched and displayed. That is the goal of our Museum Board of Directors. The Board invites you to join us in this important and fascinating project!

Planned Exhibits

The Museum Board will solicit donations to create the Museum in segments beginning with “It Was Just Good Police Work”. This display will directly address the work of the Police Department in the manhunt and capture of Lee Harvey Oswald.

The Museum will use artifacts, documents, photographs, videotaped oral history statements, and interactive electronic portals to communicate the history of the Department and, in so doing, enhance the educational aspects of the Museum for citizens of all ages. Periodically, new material will be rotated into existing display space.

We are accepting relevant photographs and artifacts for the museum

If you wish to donate artifacts to the Museum, please mail a description of the items and your contact information to: Dallas Police Museum, 1400 Botham Jean Blvd., Dallas, TX 75215.

You will be contacted to discuss your possible contribution.

Future Exhibits

Following the initial installation will be other displays such as the Museum Theater where numerous videos of retired officers and civilians will be shared with Museum visitors. More displays will follow as funding allows.

Make a Contribution

The creation of the Dallas Police Museum is overdue! Let’s take this opportunity to begin this project and pass it on to generations to come. The citizens of Dallas and visitors from around the world can then see the evolution of the City of Dallas and the Police Department that has helped make it the great city it is today.
